SEMI FINAL SATURDAY & SUNDAY - IT DOESNT GET BETTER THAN THIS
6 Mar by Tim Murphy
As the sun sets on the 4s & 5s remarkable seasons following brave Semi Final losses, we turn our attention to the 1s, 2s & 3s, as they ready themselves for their attack on the Finals series.
Following another good week on the training track, and the positive energy flowing from our young superstars in the U14As and U16s across their Thursday & Friday Grand Final efforts; our Senior players are ready for a weekend of Connection, Commitment, Competitiveness, and winning the big moments.
1st XI Skipper Chris Barr named his selected XI including the return of in form Daks Patel, and Rod Hine back in to open up the innings. Following a hiccup last match of the season, the boys hold no fears heading to Heathmont and know that our best, is the best. If we execute, and remain focused for 160 overs, we can find our way into a Grand Final. Good luck fellas - you have made us proud this season and cant wait to see you get the job done this weekend.
2nd XI skipper Nathan Pietsch has selected a very strong and well balanced team and brings back in Sam Hewitt and Will Robertson into the batting lineup following their recent 1s experience. Finishing on top of the ladder is testament to the consistency and commitment of the boys all summer and they are deserving of a home final at the beautiful Ashy Park. Go well fellas!
3rd XI skipper Dan Nguyen, still standing tall after last week's memorable 'elimination final' victory, has added to his bowling strength with the inclusion of Aiden Richards. Despite going in as underdogs against an in-form Richmond Union, the boys have nothing to lose and a wonderful, connected mindset. As Dan put it in his match report from last week "The plaudits can wait. There is another game to be played. Is there another chapter to this remarkable season? If there is, then it is up to every player to write it and give us the fairytale ending that mere mortals can only dream of". Amen Captain Dan.
Weekends like this simply dont come around all that often. To have all 5 Senior sides make the finals, and our U16s and U14s battling it out tonight in Grand Finals is testament to the hard work, and commitment of so many. A huge shout out has to go to Ron Salkowski. Who has made such an incredible contribution, and positive impact this season. Thank you Ron!
So if you are playing this weekend.......give it your best. Stay Connected, Commit to each other, and in the big moments.....Compete like you never have before. You will be amazed what you can achieve.
And if you are not playing.....get involved.! Head out to Heathmont to cheer the 1s on across Sat and Sunday. Pull up a bar stool at Ashy Park for a cold drink and see Pietschy and the lads get to work. And sneak across to Burnley Oval on Saturday at some stage to give Dan and the fellas a push along. For those who were at the 3s last week cheering on, we saw what some vocal and encouraging support from the sidelines can really do!
And no matter what, on Sunday evening, everyone should be at Ashy Park to celebrate the efforts of all teams.
CONNECT - COMMIT - COMPETE
